In 1999, Richard J. Solove, a personal friend of Dr. James and a prominent local businessman, donated twenty million dollars to The James' Threshold of Discovery campaign, the largest private donation that The Ohio State Medical Center ever received. This campaign sought monetary donations to conduct research in cancer and genetics. In honor of Solove's contribution. The Ohio State University renamed the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Research Institute to the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.
