Portrait of Manasseh Cutler. Manasseh Culter was born in Connecticut on My 13, 1742. He graduated from Yale in law, but worked as a schoolteacher and store clerk before becoming an attorney. He later became a minister of the Congregational Church in Ipswich, Massachusetts. He served as a chaplain the the American Revolutionary War and after that helped form the Ohio Company. He also served a vital role in forming the Northwest Ordinance of 1787. He died in Hamilton, Massachusetts on July 28, 1823.
