United Ukrainian Organizations of Ohio

The United Ukrainian Organizations of Ohio is a group that helps coordinate the activities of all Ukrainian societies in Cleveland, Ohio and surrounding communities.

Beginning in the late nineteenth century, a sizable number of Ukrainian immigrants came to the United States of America. Thousands of them eventually settled in Cleveland, Ohio and in nearby communities. In 1928, these immigrants formed the United Ukrainian Organizations to coordinate the activities of the various Ukrainian groups in Cleveland. By 1935, the United Ukrainian Organizations oversaw forty different organizations. By the early 1980s, the organization coordinated the activities of almost fifty different groups. In 1940, the Cleveland United Ukrainian Organizations formed the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, Inc., one of the first Ukrainian groups in the United States of America at the national level. The United Ukrainian Organizations continues to operate at the time of this writing. The group serves as just one example of how immigrant Ohioans tried to preserve their native cultures and beliefs.
