Alfred P. Sandles
Alfred Putnam Sandles was Ohio's eleventh Secretary of Agriculture. The Secretary of Agriculture served as the head of the Ohio State Board of Agriculture.
Sandles was born in 1871, in Putnam County, Ohio. He graduated from Otterbein College and embarked upon a teaching career. Sandles also was active in Ohio and local government, holding numerous positions, most notably as a clerk in the Ohio Senate. He also was an active participant in agriculture and farming-related organizations. He helped organize the Ohio Fair Managers' Association and served as the first president of the Ohio Agricultural Commission. In 1908, he became Ohio's eleventh Secretary of Agriculture. Sandles remained as secretary until 1912. Later in life he pursued careers in banking as a newspaper editor for the Putnam County Sentinel. He died in 1937.
