Battle of Piqua
Throughout the American Revolution, Shawnee warriors conducted raids against American settlements in Kentucky. In November 1782, George Rogers Clark, hoping to prevent further attacks, led a detachment of militiamen against the Shawnee Indians living at modern-day Piqua, Ohio. Many of the natives had battled against Clark at the Battle of Peckuwe, which had occurred near present-day Springfield, Ohio, approximately two years earlier. In the resulting battle, known as the Battle of Piqua, both sides suffered significant casualties. Clark's attack, successful as far as it went, did not reduce the tensions between the Americans and the Indians of the Ohio Country.
