Cleveland Force (Major Indoor Soccer League (1978-1988))
The Cleveland Force was a professional indoor soccer team from Cleveland, Ohio. The team was one of the founding members of and played in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), which existed from 1978 to 1990. The league became the Major Soccer League in 1990, and it continued to operate under this name until 1992.
The Cleveland Force existed for nine seasons (1978-1988). The team had one of the largest fan bases of teams in the MISL. During the team’s final season (1987-1988), the Force played in the league’s championship series. Unfortunately for the squad, it went winless in the series. Due to financial difficulties, the Cleveland Force disbanded at the end of the 1987-1988 season.
In 2002, a new Cleveland Force team arose. This team plays in a new Major Indoor Soccer League.
